Departing to the north-east, using VFR Route 2, your first tracking point is Emily Gap, a fairly prominent gap in the MacDonnell Ranges, south-east of the town, at 5nm from the aerodrome.
Keep a good lookout for traffic around Emily Gap, as ATC will frequently use it as a visual navigation aid in organising traffic around the control zone.
Once you have crossed the range at Emily Gap, turn right onto a track of 054 degrees. You will pass the tiny settlement of Undoolya, after which there are few landmarks until you reach the VFR approach point of Mt Benstead.

At 3226ft, its distinctive shape is an easy landmark to pick out, flanked on its southern side by the valley and Mt Benstead Creek. Once clear of controlled airspace, monitor Melbourne Centre on 119.8.
