The controlled airspace to the west of the foothills of the Blue Mountains has a lower limit of 7500ft. East of the foothills, the lower limit is 4500ft, and east of St Marys, it is 2500ft.
Be careful not to infringe these control area steps as you descend, particularly with the strong westerly winds most common between August and November. You may need to refine your descent profile in these conditions by reducing speed or increasing your rate of descent. Moderate turbulence is possible over the high ground.
From the prominent Nepean Bridge, use the Great Western Highway and the Western Motorway to avoid restricted area R536.

The CTA lower limit decreases to 2500ft just west of this major motorway interchange, so plan your descent accordingly.
Continue tracking past the Light Horse interchange, marked on the VTC, direct to Prospect Reservoir.
Prospect Reservoir is a VFR approach point for Bankstown and you should maintain a good lookout and listening watch on the Bankstown Tower frequency, 132.8, as you approach.
Contact BK Tower on 132.8 for clearance at Prospect Reservoir (not at a helicopter check point). BK Tower will confirm tracking details and provide circuit entry instructions.
When RWY 11 is in use, track via Choppers West and remain clear of the control zone until in receipt of circuit entry instructions. Expect to join circuit on left base.
