Inbound from the west or north-west, be aware of drop zones with regular parachute activity at Toogoolawah to the north-west of Amberley, and the Ripcord drop zone near Gatton.
Amberley can be activated at short notice and activity status can be obtained from Brisbane Centre on 125.7. If Amberley is active, contact Amberley Delivery on 134.6 for airways clearance at least 10nm before the boundary. In some cases, ‘track direct’ over Amberley is available.
Transiting Amberley airspace, note the location of danger area D648, where you should be above 2000ft due to firing activity.
Look out for the Swanbank Powerhouse where you must be below 3500ft to avoid infringing Brisbane’s CLL 3500ft step 2nm to the east.
Track towards the VFR approach point of Goodna. It is located on a sharp bend in the Brisbane River, where there is a small lake inside the northern bank. Be careful not to confuse this with another bend in the river, a little to the west.
The railway sheds just west of Goodna (in between the two bends in the river) are a good landmark to help you with navigation approaching Goodna.

You should be no lower than 1500ft on QNH when you get to Goodna.
Check the ATIS, listening for which runways are in use. When the ATIS states RWYs 10/28 are in use, the appropriate tower frequency is 118.1. When the ATIS states RWYs 04/22 are in use, the tower frequency is 123.6.
Contact Archerfield Tower at Goodna for clearance into the class D airspace. You will receive a joining instruction.
Track 057 direct to Archerfield at the entry altitude of 1500ft, unless otherwise instructed by ATC. Following this track you will see the prominent Western Freeway/Ipswich Motorway intersection one mile to your north.
Do not enter the zone without a clearance.
You may commence your descent from 1500ft as soon as you have crossed the zone boundary, unless ATC has requested you to maintain a particular altitude, in which case you cannot start descending until you have been issued with a subsequent instruction to make a ‘visual approach’.
No taxi clearance required. Monitor Ground on 119.9MHz.
