Arriving from the north-east, you can use VFR Route 3 for your track into Alice Springs. ATC recommends that, irrespective of your altitude, you contact Alice Tower, 118.3, at 45-50NM with your inbound details.
Track to Mt Benstead. At 3225ft, its distinctive shape is an easy landmark to pick out, flanked on its southern side by the valley and Mt Benstead Creek.
From Mt Benstead, take up a track of 217. Your next waypoint is Mount Undoolya, distinctively shaped and separated from the range to its north-east by the Undoolya Gap
S 23.43.3 E 134 06.2
Mount Undoolya is located on the south-west of the Undoolya Gap, just inside the 3500ft class D airspace step. VFR Route 3 continues on a track of 245 and crosses the Ross Highway, one mile south-east of Jessie Gap.
Out to your right, Jessie Gap is visible as a prominent gap in the range. You might be asked by ATC to identify Jessie Gap, as they sequence traffic inbound and outbound through this potentially busy airspace. Be aware of the location of Jessie Gap, marked on your VTC, and do not confuse it with Emily Gap, further along this arm of the MacDonnell Ranges to the west.
You will be diverging from the line of the MacDonnell Ranges as you continue south-west towards the airport.
