Arriving from Ayers Rock, Route 7 will track you into Alice via the most direct route. ATC recommends that, irrespective of your altitude, you contact Alice Springs Tower, 118.3, at 45-50NM with your inbound details.
Join this route at the approach point of Lawrence Gorge, an easily identified gorge through the ranges formed by the Hugh River. Take up a track of 061.
In the distance on your left, you will be able to see the Pine Gap facility, R215, an RA3 restricted area into which clearance is never available.
At 5nm Alice, you will track overhead the check point of Gaol Water Tower. Thewater tower is located on the north-eastern corner of an easily identified large prison, the Alice Springs Correctional Centre, on the western side of the Stuart Highway.

You may spot the numerous associated buildings of the prison before you see the actual tower. This is a convergence point for three inbound and outbound VFR routes.
