Obtain your clearance from Alice Tower on 118.3 and depart as per ATC instructions.
VFR Route 1 is an easy and convenient route for departures to northern points such as Tennant Creek, Katherine and Darwin. After take-off, remain east of the Stuart Highway as you track across the MacDonnell Ranges and directly overhead the town of Alice Springs.
From the town, looking north, you will see the Stuart Highway and adjacent railway line. These make an excellent line feature to help your visual navigation.
Remain east of the highway and track to Bond Springs. Keep a good lookout around here, particularly at weekends, when local glider activity can make this popular ALA a busy area.
