A general aviation route has been established through Richmond restricted airspace R469 and R470. The route is applicable during the hours of operation of Richmond air traffic services. ATC provides class C services within the restricted areas so traffic information will be provided as a minimum to all VFR aircraft using this VFR route.
Read the Richmond Military Airspace section of OnTrack, in conjunction with these procedures, for information on adjacent restricted areas. R469 and R470 are active daily between 0800 local and 2300 local, unless activated at other times by NOTAM or cancelled by NOTAM.
Tracking to the north, the Richmond VFR route begins at Nepean Bridge. Remain in class G airspace at 1500ft. At Nepean Bridge contact Richmond Tower on 135.5 for clearance northbound.
Once you have received a clearance to enter the Richmond restricted airspace, proceed north following the powerlines. You will pass to the west of the Sydney International Regatta Centre at Penrith (rowing and kayaking course), which lies immediately south of the Richmond R470 boundary.
Continue northbound, following the powerlines along the western bank of the Nepean River. Note that, on your VTC, the purple dotted line depicting the VFR route makes the powerlines symbol underneath very hard to see on the chart.
Report again when crossing the intersection of the powerlines and the Grose River. The Grose River is not particularly wide, so it is important to keep track of your progress so that you correctly identify this checkpoint.
Note that the route between the Grose River and Kurmond crosses the extended centreline for RWY 28 at Richmond aerodrome. ATC may impose a clearance limit to remain south of the Grose River to separate you from IFR arrivals and departures.

Report when crossing the intersection of the powerlines and the Bells Line of Road at Kurmond. The Bells Line of Road is a prominent line feature across your track, running north-west/south-east.
S 33 22.8 E 150 59.3
Continue tracking north-east past the small settlement of Lower Portland and report when approaching Wisemans Ferry, which is on a significant horseshoe bend in the Hawkesbury River, and marks the end of the northbound VFR route.
Expect ATC to cancel control services at this point and give you frequency change approval. At this point you can take up your preferred onwards track. The area frequency here is Sydney Centre 125.8. Keep a good listening and visual watch for other traffic in this area.
