The inland lane is available at all times, even when the CTR and associated restricted areas are active. As it lies in uncontrolled airspace, there is no requirement to notify Willy ATC or gain a clearance to transit this inland lane.
Northbound, the lane (danger area D589A SFC-1600) begins at Maitland, very close to the East Greta tracking point, where the New England Highway crosses the north-south railway line. It then follows the railway line through Dungog, Stroud Road, Gloucester and ends at Wirradgurie. You must remain at or below 1600ft as far north as Dungog, where the upper limit of the lane rises to 2000ft. This northern section of the lane is shown on the Newcastle/Williamtown VTC as danger area D589B, SFC-2000ft.
Entering and leaving the lane, do not cut the south-west corner, to get into or depart from Maitland.
There are some substantial hills either side of this inland land, so you need to be confident of maintaining terrain clearance. It is not a suitable route in low level cloud or high wind conditions.
